P.S. 212 Principal’s Message
December 2021
December 23, 2021
Dear Families,
I can’t believe it’s almost January! I would like to thank all of our families for sharing their children with us. They are truly precious gifts to celebrate this season. Please join OPEROO and REMIND to receive the most up to date notices from PS 212. If you need assistance contact Ilia Liff, Parent Coordinator.
When a parent is notified that their child is a close contact and must quarantine, they will quarantine for up to 10 days from the date of exposure. Test and Trace will confirm the return date by letter. A school notification letter is also sent out, which notifies the community of a positive confirmed case (OPEROO).
To return to school:
1) Fully Vaccinated students who can pass the Health Screening may report to school and remain in school. Fully vaccinated means the child had two doses and two weeks have passed since the second dose. If the child has CO-VID-like symptoms, they must stay home.
2) Unvaccinated students may get tested on the 5th day of quarantine, and if they get a negative result, may return on the 8th day.
or
3) If you choose to not have your child tested, you may return on the 11th day after 10 days of quarantine.
When there is a partial class closure, there is no live instruction. Students are expected to complete the work that is posted for them in their google classroom. Teachers conduct up to 2 hours per week of “office hours” which includes student and parent outreach time and posting of google class work. Students who complete their work will be marked present for the day (s). If the entire class must quarantine, then there will be a live teacher for the day.
As 2021 ends, and we begin to move into the second half of our school year; it is important that we remain focused on improving the academic achievement for all of our children. I encourage you to speak to your child about their class work and review their most recent report card. Please review homework nightly and be sure they are prepared and on time for learning. Continue to have conversations with your child’s teacher about your child’s successes in school as well as their next academic steps. Continue to collaborate with your child’s teacher and discuss additional ways you can support your child’s learning at home. In addition, please monitor your child’s attendance. It is necessary that all students come to school each day (if they are able to pass the daily health screening). If your child does not pass the health screening, contact us at 718 266 4841 or email Iliff@schools.nyc.gov. Over the winter break, please take advantage of our iReady & RAZ Kids programs, and set time aside each day for your child to reinforce ELA and Math skills.
In closing, I wish you and your family a happy holiday season, filled with laughter, warmth and good health! I look forward to continuing to work together, to ensure the social-emotional and academic success for all children. Happy New Year 2022! See you on January 3rd! Doors open at 7:50 am.
Peace and love,
Rina Horne
Principal
Stay Tuned For Upcoming January - March Activities and Events @ PS 212
The DOE has loaned iPads to students across the city for remote learning. Here you will find information on how to get started with your iPad. School staff and community members can also use this information to help students with connectivity and other troubleshooting issues.
For anyone who has a DOE-loaned ipad, we have some important updates for you. It is essential that you take the actions below to ensure your child’s ipad is ready for use for return to school. The first day of school is only a few weeks away, and all students will be working remotely for at least a few days a week. Your child will need their ipad to be ready for learning for the fall. Please note that when we have other updates, we will send messages to you and your iPad on Thursdays, and we will let your schools know about the updates.
To prepare, you MUST
Some iPads have not been turned on all summer. We need you to charge and power up the ipad.
This will reset your internet connection
To ensure your child is using the internet with all the safety the DOE requires to protect your child. You will need to sign into the content filter application, Zscaler. Follow these directions, or see the instructions on our Zscaler page:
To get ready for the first day of school, make connecting to learning and support much easier for your child (and you, too!), and allow you to get notifications on the iPad:
That allows you to connect other devices used for remote learning to the internet. It is easy:
Setting up a basic account will allow you to get emergency notifications from the DOE.
You can create a basic account online from any computer, phone, or tablet. All you need to do is:
· Go to https://mystudent.nyc/saa/signup
· Set up the account by:
o Entering your name and email address,
o creating a password, and
o answering a few brief security questions so you can reset the password if you forget it.
After you create your account, you will need to verify your identity and your relationship to that student. You can do that at the upcoming Parent-Teacher Conferences on 3/5/2020. Once you do that you will be able to see your child’s grades, test scores, and attendance.
You can also reach the administrative team or receive important notifications daily by joining our Family Remind App. The information can be found on this website under "Important Announcements."
