P.S. 212 Principal’s Message
Dear Families,
WELCOME BACK INFORMATION!
Dear Families,
Welcome back to what I hope is an exciting and fantastic school year! I hope you had a terrific summer break and that your child is happy to be joining us on September 8th, 2022. I am committed to providing care and dedication and to creating the best possible learning experience for your child. I truly hope that PS 212 will help them make the happiest school memories! Please visit www.ps212brooklyn.org for the most up to date school information by Sept. 2, 2022 and to view dismissal and arrival information.
I am writing to share with you some important information that you may find helpful to make the opening days of school run smoothly. If you need your child’s classroom information contact Iliff@schools.nyc.gov or 347-563-4628 (between 7 am and 3 pm weekdays) and she will share the classroom number with you. You should have received a tag or index card with your child’s report card or by mail. The card indicates your child’s new Sept. 2022 classroom number. Please have your child bring this with them on September 8th, 2022 and show the staff member greeting them at the doors.
2022-23 School hours are 8:00 am- 2:20 pm
Early breakfast drop off is available for K-5 students in the cafeteria. Please use the main doors on Bay 49th for early drop off from 7:30 am - 7:55 am. Doors will not be open before 7:30 am and early drop off is not available to Pre K students.
Regular arrival doors open for all students at 7:50 am and will close by 8:10 am. Children will be marked late at 8:15 am and receive a late pass from the main lobby security desk area. Parents must escort their child to the lobby for a late pass.
All guests and visitors who enter the building for any reason must enter through the main lobby and show ID. All visitors must comply with the NYC DOE visitor policy which can be found at: https://www.schools.nyc.gov/school-life/health-and-wellness/covid-information/health-and-safety-in-our-schools
Morning Arrival
3-5 breakfast will be offered beginning at 7:30 am for students who need early drop off. All other students will receive a grab and go breakfast when doors open at 7:50 am. Pre K students begin at 8:00 am and will eat breakfast/lunch in the classroom everyday as part of their school program.
School doors open daily for all students between 7:50 am and 7:55 am. Please do not arrive early unless you need an early drop to accommodate work schedules.
Exit 10 - Small school yard: Students in Pre K to grade 2 line up in the small yard and enter the building on their own with staff assistance and proceed to the auditorium and wait for their teacher to escort them to class. Please check the arrival map to locate the entry doors; it can be found at www.ps212brooklyn.org by Sept. 2, 2022. Pre K to 2 students should arrive between 7:50 am and 8:00 am and use the small school yard for entry.
Exit 2 - Large school yard area: Grade 3-5 students will walk directly up to their class with staff supervision in stairwells and hallways. Please be sure that children in grades 3-5 know their classroom number on day one! Please check their June report card for this information or contact the school office.
Dismissal
Please indicate who will pick up your child on the Blue Card. Only persons 18 years of age or older may pick up students. Blue cards will be sent home on day one and must be returned on day two! Please review the 2022 arrival and dismissal map to learn where drop off and pick up takes place. In many cases it is NOT the same door as morning arrival! The dismissal map and other arrival and dismissal information can be found at www.ps212brooklyn.org by Sept. 2, 2022. Teachers will dismiss directly from the door to a parent or guardian listed on the Blue Card (rain or shine). All students will receive a PS 212 free blue poncho to use during rainy days. Please keep the poncho in your child’s school bag. Walking permission will only be permitted for grades 3-5 and must be given by day one. For grades 3-5, please write a note on the first day of school to the teacher if you wish your child to walk home on September 8. 2022. Older children cannot pick-up younger siblings who are not in grades 3-5 and have a walking permission slip on file. You must contact 718 266-4841/ or Parent Coordinator Cell Phone: 347-563-4628 with concerns or changes needed for dismissal. Notices of any changes must be sent in writing to iliff@schools.nyc.gov or to your child’s teacher by 2 pm.
Thank you for your cooperation and I look forward to partnering with you and providing an outstanding educational experience for your child!
Warmest regards,
Rina Horne
Principal
The DOE has loaned iPads to students across the city for remote learning. Here you will find information on how to get started with your iPad. School staff and community members can also use this information to help students with connectivity and other troubleshooting issues.
For anyone who has a DOE-loaned ipad, we have some important updates for you. It is essential that you take the actions below to ensure your child’s ipad is ready for use for return to school. The first day of school is only a few weeks away, and all students will be working remotely for at least a few days a week. Your child will need their ipad to be ready for learning for the fall. Please note that when we have other updates, we will send messages to you and your iPad on Thursdays, and we will let your schools know about the updates.
To prepare, you MUST
Some iPads have not been turned on all summer. We need you to charge and power up the ipad.
This will reset your internet connection
To ensure your child is using the internet with all the safety the DOE requires to protect your child. You will need to sign into the content filter application, Zscaler. Follow these directions, or see the instructions on our Zscaler page:
To get ready for the first day of school, make connecting to learning and support much easier for your child (and you, too!), and allow you to get notifications on the iPad:
That allows you to connect other devices used for remote learning to the internet. It is easy:
Setting up a basic account will allow you to get emergency notifications from the DOE.
You can create a basic account online from any computer, phone, or tablet. All you need to do is:
· Go to https://mystudent.nyc/saa/signup
· Set up the account by:
o Entering your name and email address,
o creating a password, and
o answering a few brief security questions so you can reset the password if you forget it.
After you create your account, you will need to verify your identity and your relationship to that student. You can do that at the upcoming Parent-Teacher Conferences on 3/5/2020. Once you do that you will be able to see your child’s grades, test scores, and attendance.
You can also reach the administrative team or receive important notifications daily by joining our Family Remind App. The information can be found on this website under "Important Announcements."
